Where to Donate Supplies to Evacuees
To those who wish to provide supplies for the relief effort, I am passing along the following note from Mayor Bill White. It has important information about what is needed and where donations can be made: ----------------------------------------------------------- In response to the plight of the evacuees from the areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina, Houston and the surrounding cities have demonstrated an unprecedented amount of support through donations and financial aid. All of your efforts are greatly appreciated. There is still an immediate need for the following: Play pens, baby bouncers and child safety seats New women's clothing, especially plus size (2x -10x) foundation wear New clothing for men, women and children New underwear all ages and sizes Sheets, blankets and pillows for cribs and regular beds Feminine hygiene products New shoes, all ages and sizes These items are being accepted at Gulf Haven Church at 10716 Sabo Road, West Houston Church at 2390 West Sam Houston Parkway North at Hammerly, and Berean 7th Day Adventist Church, 2119 St. Emanuel. CORRECTION -- A previously mentioned Harrisburg location is not a drop-off location and is not able to accept donations directly. Relief organizers announced the creation of a centralized distribution system to enable efficient transfer of donations to the many shelters throughout the city. The George R. Brown Convention Center has received tons of clothing, linens and products, while other shelters are still in need. Shelters will be able to call the central warehouse to order formula, diapers, clothing, and have them delivered in a timely manner. The George R. Brown Convention Center is no longer accepting donations. Those wanting to donate clothes, toys and other items of this nature are urged to call the United Way at 713/957-4357 or visit the city drop-off sites. For large corporate / bulk donations for items and services and for donations of morale / entertainment items (televisions, computers, stereos, etc.), please call the Donations Resource Center at 832/667.3660 or 832/667.3661. Thank you for all of your help. -----------------------------------------------------------
