Apply Now to Vote By Mail in March Primary
It will be almost two months after New Hampshire, but Texas will also have a primary election this year, and applications to vote by mail in the Texas primary are now available. Our Democratic and Republican party primaries will be on Tuesday, March 4. The primary will include not only presidential contenders (assuming there are any left by then), but will also decide who be the party nominees for various offices on the state, county and local levels as well. You do not need to be registered as a "Democrat" or "Republican" to vote in a primary in Texas. Any registered voter can vote in either primary, but you may not vote in both. You must vote in the primary in order to participate in the party caucus for your voting precinct, which is held at your polling place after the polls close on March 4. You are eligible to vote by mail if:
- you are going to be away from the county on March 4 AND during the early
voting period, or, If you plan to vote by mail in the primary, you need to apply for a mail ballot. You should do that as early as possible, so that you'll have your ballot in plenty time to mail it back. Mail ballot requests can be sent in now, and must be received by the county no later than February 26. You can download an application to vote by mail from my web site at www.scotthochberg.com. For more information about early voting by mail, see www.harrisvotes.com. As always, let me know if you have questions or if we can help in any way. Sincerely,
Scott Hochberg
