  • No Sales Tax on Energy-Saving Appliances This Weekend

If you're planning to buy a new major appliance or energy-efficient light bulbs, this weekend might be a good time to do it. Energy-efficient household appliances carrying the Energy Star logo will be free from sales tax in Texas this weekend only, May 24-26.

The sales tax holiday applies to:
    - air conditioners priced less than $6,000,
    - ceiling fans,
    - dehumidifiers,
    - dishwashers,
    - incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs,
    - programmable thermostats,
    - refrigerators priced less than $2,000, and,
    - clothes washers.

Appliances are allowed to use the Energy Star logo if they use less energy and/or water than other similar models. Energy Star does not label clothes dryers, because most models use about the same amount of energy. There's detailed information on which products carry the Energy Star logo at www.energystar.gov .

The Energy Star certification program is run jointly by the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. As always, please let me know if you have questions about the tax holiday or if we can help in any other way.

Have a safe Memorial Day weekend and please remember those whom this holiday honors.
